Estratest

Estratest is a combination drug made up of the female hormone estrogen, and the male hormone testosterone. Estratest is prescribed to treat menopause in older women, premature menopause in younger women, and for women of any age who have had a hysterectomy. The generic name for Estratest is esterified estrogens and methyltestosterone. Estratest is prescribed primarily for patients that have not been able to be successfully treated with estrogen alone.

Side effects of Estratest range from minor side effects such as acne, nausea, and decreased sex drive, to more serious side effects like liver problems or jaundice (yellowing of the skin). Some users also report weight gain from taking Estratest. You should report any minor side effects to your doctor, and seek immediate medical treatment for major side effects. Estratest is a class "X" drug, which should never be taken by pregnant or nursing women, as it is known to harm an unborn child or nursing infant. If Estratest is taken by a women that is pregnant with a female child, that child may face an increased risk of female cancers later in her life. You must use a reliable birth control method to keep from becoming pregnant while taking Estratest, but if it fails and you do become pregnant, notify your doctor immediately. Do not use hormonal birth control (such as "the pill") when taking Estratest. Patients with some preexisting medical conditions, especially heart disease or prior cancers, may not be able to take Estratest. Also, patients using certain medications, such as insulin or blood thinners, may be advised against taking Estratest. Tell your doctor about all medical conditions you have, and all medications or vitamin and herbal supplements you take, so he or she may make the proper decision about your Estratest usage.

Estratest studies have shown an increased incidence of uterine, ovarian, and breast cancers, stroke and blood clots to be dangers of Estratest usage. You will need to undergo regular testing to make sure that you are not developing these conditions as a result of Estratest use. Your doctor will also want to monitor your blood pressure, to make sure it does not get too high, which can cause a condition known as hypertension. Estratest should never be taken unless you are under a doctor's care.
