Temazepam is a hypnotic drug, known specifically as a Benzodiazepine derivative. Its brand names include Restoril, Normison, Tenox and Temaze. The drug has proven effective in treating insomnia, since it depresses the central nervous system and brain, causing drowsiness. Temazepam has also proven effective in hypnosis therapy, as the drug possesses powerful anticonvulsant and sedative properties.
Dosage For Temazepam
Temazepam is prescribed by a doctor and dosage may vary depending on the specific condition and treatment. Generally, Temazepam is taken orally, with or without food, and about a half hour before bedtime. In order for the medication to be effective regular dosing should be followed as prescribed. There is also a need to be cautious when taking this medication, as it can cause drowsiness and difficulty in coordination. Alcohol worsens these symptoms, as could other medications you currently take. Temazepam is usually not recommended for the elderly or for children as they tend to be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug. Temazepam dosage can also affect pregnancy and breastfeeding. Temazepam side effects include anxiety, clumsiness, fatigue, hangover like feelings, nausea, weakness and nervousness.
Cautions Of Using The Drug Temazepam
Temazepam is known to cause memory loss, particularly if the patient has a poor sleeping schedule. It should only be taken if a full night's sleep (at least seven hours) is possible. Some patients have reported having unusual or disturbing thoughts when on Temazepam (such as suicide); if this is the case you should immediately contact your doctor. These feelings are not normal and are very likely the result of the medicine reacting to an imbalance.
If the medication is taken every night for a few weeks, a dependence on the drug can develop. Lower doses will not prove effective and the body will only respond to higher amounts of the drug. This type of tolerance can prove dangerous and so the medication is not recommended for long periods of time. There is also a risk of withdrawal symptoms associated with stopping Temazepam therapy. Symptoms associated with withdrawal include stomach and muscle cramps, vomiting, shakiness and seizures.
There is much opportunity for abuse when using such a powerful drug, and overdosing on Temazepam is common and unfortunately, can prove fatal. There is no official Temazepam fatal dose amount, though obviously a Temazepam overdose would have other affects, even if the patient is given medical attention or sleeps the high dosage away. Just 120 mg of the drug is considered a high overdose and can linger in a person's system for days. Temazepam snorting is obviously not a good idea and is even more dangerous than overdosing on capsules. Snorting Temazepam, some users have commented, results in mild euphoria along with memory loss afterwards. While some may see the snorting of Temazepam with no prescription as a quick way to hallucinate, the abuse of Temazepam is more frequently associated with losing total control over the body and possibly not waking up. Ever. No prescription for Temazepam means that there's no reason to take it. For more Temazepam information visit Drugs.com.
