What is Wellbutrin? Wellbutrin is the drug known as Bupropion or Amfebutamone, which is an antidepressant and smoking cessation aid. It is sold generically as Bupropion tablets, and is used mainly to treat depression. As of the year 2006 Wellbutrin was the fourth most prescribed antidepressant in America, with over 20 million prescriptions.

Understanding Wellbutrin Dosage

Wellbutrin is prescribed by a doctor and patients should closely follow the dosage directions for the best results. Generally, Wellbutrin takes time to improve patients' symptoms, perhaps as long as several weeks. Do not stop taking the drug until the full course of treatment has ended, or until otherwise noted by your doctor. Dosage is usually spaced six hours apart, as this helps to alleviate some side effects. Continue to take the drug even if you start to feel better. Some side effects reported with Wellbutrin include anxiety and agitation, constipation, dry mouth, loss of appetite, vomiting, weight changes and nervousness. More severe symptoms could also result, and these might include hives, difficulty in breathing, delusions or hallucinations, joint pain, a change in sexual desire or ability, menstrual changes, red or peeling skin, severe pain in the head or body, abnormal bleeding or even an “ exaggerated sense of well-being.” Wellbutrin has been linked to suicidal behavior in some patients, and hence it it is not recommended for children.
