Common Side Effects Of Zyprexa

Zyprexa has precautions that could possibly prevent side effects, as well as side effects that are unpredictable. If a patient follows the prescription dosage then many of serious side effects will most likely be averted. However, allergic reactions could occur and they would include more severe side effects such as hives, facial swelling, a tightness in the chest or difficulty with breathing, fainting, decreased urination, fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat, fever, drooling, memory loss seizures or severe pain. More common side effects, if dosage and precautions are followed, may include joint pain, constipation, cough, drowsiness, increased appetite, numbness of the skin and weight gain. Zyprexa should be prescribed by a doctor who will be aware of a patient's medical history.

There may be medical conditions that will discourage a doctor from prescribing Zyprexa, such as Diabetes, a history of seizures, heart problems or low blood pressure, liver problems, stomach problems, pneumonia or Alzheimer's disease. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning to get pregnant Zyprexa may be halted because of the increased possibility of harm coming to the baby. Zyprexa may also not be compatible with certain medications including Alpha blockers, Diazepam, Fluvoxamine, Llorazepam HIV protease inhibitors, Omeprazole, or Rifampin.

Zyprexa medication is often times not recommended for children, elderly patients or patients with a history of suicidal behavior or bipolar disorder. Zyprexa also lists Neuroleptic malignant syndrome as possible condition that could result from the drug Zyprexa, and one that could be fatal. Besides stuff muscles and fever, confusion and abnormal thinking may be symptoms of this dangerous condition.
